$10 Million COMPETITION, 330 Teams from around the world, 13 health conditions

Health Care in the Palm of Your Hand

The goal of the $10 million Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE® is to give consumers access to diagnostic tools that deliver meaningful information about their health status.

The Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE is a 5-year global competition that will award $10 million across three teams that develop a consumer-friendly device capable of diagnosing a set of 13 health conditions and capturing key metrics for better health information. The winning solutions will enable consumers in any location to quickly and effectively evaluate health conditions, determine if they need medical help & answer the question, “What should I do?” when it comes to their health.

Artificial Intelligence with great bedside manners

The VITALITI Diagnostic Android Application is a virtual doctor that synthesizes all the data from the VITALITI sensors and asks differential diagnostic questions to identify multiple common medical conditions. One example: VITALITI can diagnose 7 different respiratory diseases by the sound of a patient’s cough.

VITALITI - the Cloud DX entry in the Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE

Why is it important?

Competitions like the Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE drive extreme innovation and deliver technology nobody thought possible. The first XPRIZE, the $10 million Ansari XPRIZE, helped create the private spaceflight industry - before the Ansari XPRIZE, it was illegal to launch private rockets. XPRIZE proved it could be done safely.

The device developed under the Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE will be a revolutionary device that can track vital signs for days and diagnose health conditions all by itself. The winning teams will force regulatory changes that will save millions of lives, making healthcare more achievable for billions of people.

Revolutionizing Health Care

On August 27th, 2014 Team Cloud DX was confirmed as a Finalist in the Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE. A panel of distinguished judges examined the Cloud DX technology, and agreed that the VITALITI Platform has what it takes to compete for one of the top three prizes!

Cloud DX is the only Canadian team participating in the XPRIZE Competition to develop a consumer-friendly device capable of diagnosing a set of 13 health conditions and capturing key metrics for improved health monitoring.

The goal of Cloud DX’s entry into the XPRIZE is to develop a medical device ecosystem that will revolutionize consumer healthcare. This competition will transform the patient's experience of care by enabling ordinary people to monitor their own state of health, diagnose a number of common health conditions, and better assess when to seek treatment from a medical professional.

Who is team Cloud DX?

Team Cloud DX beat out nearly 330 teams from around the world to make the top 10 in August 2014. We are passionate professionals - doctors, engineers, designers, programmers & technologists based in Toronto, and funded by a tiny start-up called Cloud Diagnostics Canada. We are attempting to build a working Health Monitor system, imagined by the Tricorder, on a budget of less than $1.5 million - and we are almost there!

What’s at stake here?

Out of seven remaining finalists, up to three teams could be awarded a prize in the Final Round based on device performance. First prize is up to $10 million and a place in history - for example, the winning craft from the Ansari XPRIZE, SpaceShipOne, hangs in the Air & Space Museum in Washington DC.

More importantly, winning means taking new technology into the market - technology that can better monitor chronic diseases, identify conditions early and provide a real screening tool for 13 serious to life threatening conditions, all at a lower cost than ever before. We want this winning technology to come from CANADA!
